  • KAPLAN Admission Exam

RjSmithTec Hello all! First of all, good luck with your future nursing goals, or congratulations on your achievements if you are currently an RN! I just applied for the fall program with a local, competitive aren't they all, really? They are primarily looking at the scores from the Kaplan entrance exam that every applicant is required to take. I scored an 81 overall. Not too pleased with my science score. Not sure. Would anyone happen to know how they compare? Is 81 an ok score? My nursing advisor said the average accepted applicants score is 69, but this seems way too low.
  • Invest In Your Ambition.

Out of my school and the other people I talked to, I scored higher than average and I was accepted into that program. On the teas, I was told that it was above average and I was accepted into that program as well. I felt both tests were similar, but the kaplan seemed more specific. The math portion on the teas was harder than kaplan, but a calc was not allowed. At my school, we could use it for the kaplan. I felt the vocab was easier on the teas. Overall, they were pretty similar. I appreciate the feedback. It's still hard to believe that a 69 is average, that seems so very low to me. I did get in, but I had a lot more stress about it than I would have had if I didn't have the one bad semester and didn't study for the TEAS.

The Kaplan wasn't a big deal because they didn't focus a lot on that score. Plus, my GPA was a 3. For the second program the one I'm about to begin it was a 3. I was accepted into the LPN accelerated program the college of my choice, but does my low score reflect that I might not do well in school because I didn't know a lot of the answers?? I've heard horror stories about it.

My Kaplan test was all online and was proctored by a professor. For the math section, you are given a calculator and scratch piece of paper. My exam was set up this way and it is important to talk with your testing center to see if things differ or there are any additional rules needed to be followed during your exam. The reason I recommend taking the online ACT and SAT practice tests for reading is that it gets you comfortable with analyzing long passages on a computer as well as allows you to understand the mistakes you made and why you made them a little more informatively. Another tip I would recommend is using a scratch piece of paper to write down the main concept of the passage that way when you are hung up on a question you can always differ back to the topic and make an informed guess if you get stuck.
